After users filled her Twitter timeline with complaints, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman requested Infosys and its Chairman Nandan Nilekani to resolve technical difficulties on the income tax department’s new e-filing system.
In 2019, Infosys was given a contract to construct the next-generation income tax filing system, which will shorten return processing time from 63 days to one day and expedite refunds. Sitharaman announced the opening of the new portal, http://www.incometax.gov.in, on Twitter early Tuesday morning, saying that the “critical milestone to make the compliance process more taxpayer-friendly” went live in 2045 Hrs on Monday.
