Indian Railways on June 18 approved 660 more trains in view of the “flattening of Corona Curve” in June 2021.
“As of June 18, about 983 Mail/Express trains are being operated daily which is about 56% of the pre-COVID-19 level,” it added. “The number of trains is being enhanced gradually as per demand and commercial justification,” the Indian Railways stated.
As on June 1, about 800 mail and express trains were in operation.”During the period from June 1 to June 18, approval for operating 660 additional mail/express trains has been given to the zonal railways,” it said.
These include 552 mail and express trains and 108 holiday special trains.
Zonal Railways are advised to restore trains in a graded manner keeping in view local conditions, tickets demand situation, and Covid cases in the region.
Meanwhile, 60,753 fresh Covid-19 cases and 1,647 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the data updated by Health ministry.
