Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Toycathon 2021 participants on Thursday, saying that India’s greatest strengths are tradition and technology.
“Students, teachers, startups have enthusiastically participated in Toycathon 2021. The participation of over 1,500 teams during the first grand finale of the event indicates a bright future. The event also strengthens the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign,” Modi said.
He also echoed his prior remarks, in which he urged the country’s youth to be self-sufficient and develop local solutions in the realms of toys and digital gaming. “Toys and games influence our mental power, creativity and our economy. All of us know that a child’s first school is his/her family. But the first book and first friends are toys,” the Prime Minister further said.
The Education ministry, the Women and Child Development ministry, the Textile ministry, the Department for Promotion of Textile and Internal Trade, the Information and Broadcasting ministry, the MSME ministry, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) jointly launched Toycathon 2021 on January 5 this year to crowd-source innovative toy and game ideas. This event drew over 120,000 individuals from across the country, and over 17,000 ideas were submitted, with 1,567 being selected for the final event, which will take place on June 22-24. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the final will feature teams with digital toy concepts, with a second offline event for non-digital toy concepts.
