Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with the experts in the morning to examine the situation of oxygen availability, medicines, health infrastructure, etc in the country amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He will be scrutinizing the human resource situation in India and will plan to augment it.
The meeting may determine to be significant as Indian endeavors to tackle a bizarre spike in Covid-19 cases that has put immense pressure on its healthcare system and has left several states in quest of hospital beds, medicines, and liquid medical oxygen. The Centre has already asked the states to treat oxygen as a critical commodity and initiate an audit regarding its consumption at all hospitals amid a shortage of gas in several parts of India.
PM Narendra Modi also chaired this meeting to plan and ensure uninterrupted movement of goods so that the supply chain does not get disrupted. Moreover, this meeting was attended by Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan, the Health Secretary, and some other officials.
The second wave of Covid-19 has already overburdened the morgues, hospitals, and crematoriums, leaving the kin of the patients gasping for medical supplies amid its scarcity. Even though Indian is the biggest producer of Covid-19 vaccines, its mass shortage is devastating the public.
Moreover, people have been criticizing the political leaders for escorting rallies ahead of the surge in cases as their supporters openly flout the Covid-19 norms, adding to the severity of the situation.
