Days after the Uttar Pradesh Police issued a legal notice to Twitter India’s Managing Director Manish Maheshwari for “provoking communal unrest” over posts related to the assault on a Muslim man in Loni earlier in June, Maheshwari responded by saying he’s willing to be questioned via video conferencing, according to reports.
Maheshwari replied saying, ” he does not deal with the case directly”. The police, according Indian news agency ANI, are dissatisfied with the response and will issue another notice. The Twitter CEO had been summoned to a police station near the Loni border and given a week to record a statement.
In the first such instance, the Ghaziabad Police filed a FIR accusing Twitter of failing to delete postings related to an event in which a 72-year-old Muslim man, Abdul Samad Saifi, was violently thrashed in Ghaziabad’s Loni.
