Two preachers from Delhi have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) for reportedly converting over a thousand individuals to Islam in the state by tempting them with money, jobs, and marriage, among other things. According to authorities, the two targeted women, the unemployed, the impoverished, and the physically impaired.Mufti Kazi Jahageer Alam Kasmi, 52, and Mohammad Umar Gautam, 57, were detained in the Capital’s Jamia Nagar neighbourhood. According to police, they and their friends run an organisation called Islamic Dawah Centre (IDC), which has allegedly been performing large-scale conversions for the past one and a half years. According to an ATS officer, Gautam converted to Islam a few years ago.
Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General, Law and Order, claimed that when looking into the accounts of the accused and IDC, substantial transactions were uncovered, including allegedly foreign monies. The ADG said they discovered this while questioning two people recently arrested on charges of faking their identities to gain admission to Ghaziabad’s Dasana Devi shrine and plotting to attack it.
Two males named ‘Vipul Vijay Vargiya’ and ‘Kashi Gupta’ were apprehended by security staff at the temple on June 2 evening, according to an FIR lodged at the Masuri Police Station. They were apparently behaving suspiciously. Vipul also went by the name Mohammad Rizwan and had recently converted to Islam, but ‘Kashi’ was actually ‘Kashif,’ according to the police who were called to the scene.
