The Congress landed in a soup on Tuesday while supporting the Bharat Bandh called by the farmers by sharing a distorted map of India that showed Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh as part of Pakistan and China.
The Assam Congress tweeted the incorrect map from its official Twitter handle with the tagline “India is with farmers, Modi is with Ambani” while tagging “Stand with Farmers”.
The distorted visual depiction of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir is very similar to what Pakistan has been claiming for long. Islamabad claims Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to be its part.
Netizens roasted the Assam Congress for the wrong map. They accused the party of distorting the map only with the purpose of targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A person even tweeted screenshots of the news, adding such wrong representation invites jail term and also fine.
However, this is not the first time the Congress has made the mistake. Earlier, party leaders and official social media accounts of the party have shared distorted maps of India.
In December 2019 while protesting against the new citizenship amendment law passed by the Modi government, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had shared a map of the country where Ladakh was missing.
As netizens expressed outrage, the leader deleted the tweet.
Two months prior to this, he posted a similar map showing India’s linguistic diversity. However, it left out parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
